The Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation conducted a study called the 2020 Analysis of the Local Senior Ecosystem and Opportunities.

The study was the most comprehensive study available at the time for the Ann Arbor area and Washtenaw County. It found many interesting statistics and was before inflation took off and housing costs and other living costs increased significantly.

  • 20% of people in Washtenaw County are 60 years old or older or more than 72,000 people at the time of the study.

  • 18% of older adults rented and 82% owned their home.

  • Renters paid 53.3% of their income to housing.

  • 1 in 4 older adults are disabled in some way

Housing was one of the biggest concerns for older adults in the Ann Arbor area including staying in ones home for as long as possible, affordable housing, and evaluating senior living and senior care options.

Catholic Charities of Washtenaw County. Services promote dignity and well-being, while focussing on caregiving, maintaining safe and secure living environment, and accessing community resources.

Jewish Family Services of Washtenaw County. Offering older adults and their caregivers the support and service they need.

This is just a start when looking for support to stay in the family home safely for as long as possible. There are other organizations locally that provide support and services as well.
